My Backyard Reimagined ::: Days 4-7
So, I tilled my yard twice before this week and I thought I was ready to go! I got out my string and started using my hoe to lay out my circular beds…Garden hoe, not Dirty Sixth hoe.
As I was laying out my beds to begin prepping my soil I ran into a bunch of Bermuda Grass roots. After some internal deliberation I decided it was best to till again and make sure I get all these roots out.
You might be asking yourself.
Why should I care so much about weeds in my garden?
I’m just trying to grow veggies not make the prettiest garden in town.
It’s important to rid your garden of weeds because they rob your soil and your plants of important nutrients and water.
Certain weeds such as nut grass actually reduce crop yield on farms because their roots release chemicals that are harmful to surrounding plants.
You all know that in Texas we have to be conservative about our water use.
And if you don’t know, now you know.. Thanks BIGGIE
In my backyard garden I plan to try a few things to conserve water and help my veggies out. I’ll be posting about them as I do them so stay tuned..
